Because of the size of the defect it was decided to use a healing obturator to facilitate bone formation in the defect. At the end of 3 months, bone formation had led to complete obliteration of the defect with an almost complete fill to the crest of the ridge. The next phase of the treatment was prosthetic rehabilitation. The patient preferred a fixed replacement of t… Show more

“…According to Christian et al and Zemann et al, within a year of the patient receiving the procedure, ameloblastoma was successfully treated by segmental excision of the mandible with obturator implantation. They used dental implants for prosthetic rehabilitation during the postoperative period [ 6 , 7 ]. In this case report, the modified Brosch approach surgically removed the tumor with a rim of the involved bone while maintaining the continuity of the mandible.…”

“…39,40 To date, there are few reports regarding dental implantation into iliac crest grafts, and thus, little literature is available for review. 44 In addition, Chiapasco et al retrospectively evaluated the clinical outcomes following tumor resection in 29 patients with vascularized (iliac crest) or nonvascularized (calvarial) bone grafts and dental implants. However, a few principles should be followed.…”
