“…To fulfill this structural requirement, we turned our attention to the well‐documented yet still evolving Pd(OAc) 2 ‐catalyzed directed CH‐functionalization. After contemplating a wide variety of well‐documented directing groups, we were attracted to Zhao's diisopropyl oxalamide which has been demonstrated capable of operating through a seven‐membered palladacycle intermediate closely related to our proposed transformation. The prerequisite oxalamide precursor 11 / 11 a was easily synthesized from azide 9 / 9 a , and gratifyingly, under our optimized reaction condition (see the Supporting Information) the desired CH‐functionalization/alkenylation reaction took place smoothly to afford cinnamate derivative 12 / 12 a as the sole product (Figure ).…”
