Report of the 3rd and 4th Mystery of Reactive Oxygen Species Conference

Shihori Tanabe

Abstract: The main MoR discussion led to further suggestions on KE terminology, including ensuring coherence to directionality in terms of the KE descriptions (e.g., specifying increase, decrease, altered, no direction, etc.) and clarifying differences in ROS and reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), and enzymatic and non-enzymatic events. The consortium highlighted the importance of the role of ROS as a KE and an associative event in the AOP framework. Additionally, participants highlighted modification to macro… Show more

“…For example, Thanan et al (2014) reviewed the role of oxidative stress stemming from exposure to environmental factors in the development and progression of cancer and neurodegenerative disease. Furthermore, collection of Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) dedicated to understanding the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) originating from environmental stressor exposure, related to disease development and progression, has been established with several hundreds of AOPs registered ( Tanabe et al, 2022 ; Tanabe et al, 2023 ). Thus, the environment is central to human health in terms of disease development and progression.…”
