Chemical sand control is widely used due to its durability and cost-effectiveness. Injecting polymers or nanoparticles into the reservoir can enhance its stability and prevent sand production. This account introduces and discusses the latest developments in chemical sand production control, including materials, methods, mechanisms, and characterization of sand production control. First, the properties of polymers, nanoparticles, and nanocomposites used in chemical sand production control are summarized, and resin viscosity reduction methods are introduced. Second, the sand production mechanisms of different reservoirs are introduced. Third, different chemical sand production control methods are discussed and core testing and characterization methods are introduced. Finally, gaps and challenges in chemical sand production control are presented, and possible future directions for chemical sand production control are discussed. The review provides a good reference for researchers in chemical sand production control.
