Requirements for the Quality Database

Examines the application and use of statistical process control (SPC) tools to improve the quality of maintenance work. Identifies areas in maintenance where SPC tools can be used. Gives an example that demonstrates the use of these tools in an integrated fashion and outlines the data needed to utilize these tools effectively. Finally, the need for an integration of the maintenance information system (MIS) and the quality information system (QIS) is highlighted.

Western businesses have responded to increased competitive pressure with a number of quality initiatives. The most recent is total quality management (TQM). This paper traces the evolution of TQM from traditional quality management, and its diffusion through various sectors of the economy. The aspects of TQM that have been studied in the academic literature are summarized and areas for further study are suggested. Résumé Sous la pression d'une concurrence de plus en plus vive, les entreprises occidentales ont réagi par un certain nombre d'initiatives axées sur la qualité, dont la plus récente est la gestion de la qualité totale (GQT). L'auteure décrit r'évolution de la GQT depuis la gestion traditionnelle de la qualité et son expansion à divers secteurs de l'économie. Elle résume les aspects de la GQT traités dans les écrits scientifiques et propose des domaines d'étude à approfondir.
