Research advances of secretory proteins in malignant tumors

Abstract: Secretory proteins in tumor tissues are important components of the tumor microenvironment. Secretory proteins act on tumor cells or stromal cells or mediate interactions between tumor cells and stromal cells, thereby affecting tumor progression and clinical treatment efficacy. In this paper, recent research advances in secretory proteins in malignant tumors are reviewed.

“…In this study, we focused on testing the area within 10 mm of tumor tissue to make sure that the viscoelastic properties of the tumor tissue and not the healthy tissue were measured. The tumor itself, tumor microenvironment, and the other surrounding area are all affected by proinflammatory factors and molecules released from tumor cells ( Zhang et al, 2021 ). For example, tumor cells secrete diverse growth factors, proinflammatory cytokines, glycoproteins, enzymes, and exosomes.…”

“…Conversely, when the expression of GPX4 activity is promoted, cells can become tolerant to the occurrence of ferroptosis. It has been found [181,182] that RSL3, as an iron death inducer, can effectively act on GPX4 in cells and directly inhibit GPX4 activity, so as to reduce the antioxidant capacity of cells, allow a large amount of ROS to accumulate in cells, and ultimately lead to the occurrence of ferroptosis. In addition, certain compounds (such as ML162, withaferinA, DPI7, DPI10) and the chemotherapeutic agent (such as altretamine) can also directly or indirectly inhibit the expression of GPX4 activity in cells and ultimately induce ferroptosis in cells.…”

“…In detail, proteins secreted by cancer cells, including enzymes, cytokines, and growth factors, play roles in numerous biological and physiological functions, such as immune responses and intercellular communication [ 86 ]. A significant portion of the cancer secretome is detectable in the blood in measurable quantities, making these proteins accessible biomarkers compared to those located within tumor tissue [ 87 ].…”
