Research and Design of Rotary Optical Electric Field Sensor

Abstract: In order to solve the problem that traditional optical electric field sensors are susceptible to temperature, charge drift and other internal and external factors in the measurement of DC electric field and ultra-low frequency electric field, an optical electric field sensor with rotating structure is proposed. The mathematical model of the output signal of the sensor is theoretically analyzed and deduced, and the structural design scheme of the sensor is given, and the experimental verification is carried out… Show more

“…According to [111], understanding the kind and density of charge carriers is critical for measurements that are affected by them. To reduce the effects of surface charge carriers, researchers suggested rotating the optical crystal in the field during DC measurements [149,[159][160][161][162]. However, this symmetrical charging of the transducer remains effective only when the ion current is uniformly distributed which is not the case under an outdoor power transmission line.…”

“…This phenomenon changes the crystal's properties and its response to external electric fields, affecting the accuracy of the measurement. Previous applications limited the use of EO crystals to measurements above 20 Hz [13], unless the effect of space charge was analytically compensated [14] or avoided using a rotary stage [15].…”
