“…The produced gas composition is apparently affected by the O/C ratio, but the produced gas composition is actually affected by the gasification temperature. These produced gas (N 2 free) composition profiles are very similar to those of the oxygen gasification process (Piao et al, 2004;Kobayashi et al, 2007) at the same temperature range. Fig.…”

“…As for non-catalytic gasification processes, there are gasification or pyrolysis processes equipped with a high temperature tar reforming system with oxygen to decrease tar components from produced gas, but the gasification process is complex. In contrast, a high temperature oxygen-blown gasification process that is capable of direct tar decomposition in a high temperature gasification zone in a simple gasification unit was recently proposed, and it demonstrated that tar generation is controlled almost completely in an entrained down-flow gasifier (Piao et al, 2004;Itaya and Mori, 2005). The highest temperature of the gasifier is over 1500 K, so the carbon conversion can achieve over 99% without tar generation, and the cold gas efficiency is over 60% in the small experimental gasification unit.…”

“…There is, therefore, a pressing need to improve the gasifi cation process. Many kinds of gasifi ers, such as fl uidized-bed, 1,2 entrained-bed, 3 and rotary-kiln 4 gasifi ers have been proposed, and extensive research studies and experiments are being conducted. Our studies have focused on steam gasifi cation and reforming of waste biomass using a reforming catalyst.…”
