This review article presents an assessment of trends in statistical methods and an evaluation of their appropriateness in articles published in the Archives of Plastic Surgery (APS) from 2012 to 2017. We reviewed 388 original articles published in APS between 2012 and 2017. We categorized the articles that used statistical methods according to the type of statistical method, the number of statistical methods, and the type of statistical software used. We checked whether there were errors in the description of statistical methods and results. A total of 230 articles (59.3%) published in APS between 2012 and 2017 used one or more statistical method. Within these articles, there were 261 applications of statistical methods with continuous or ordinal outcomes, and 139 applications of statistical methods with categorical outcome. The Pearson chi-square test (17.4%) and the Mann-Whitney U test (14.4%) were the most frequently used methods. Errors in describing statistical methods and results were found in 133 of the 230 articles (57.8%). Inadequate description of P-values was the most common error (39.1%). Among the 230 articles that used statistical methods, 71.7% provided details about the statistical software programs used for the analyses. SPSS was predominantly used in the articles that presented statistical analyses. We found that the use of statistical methods in APS has increased over the last 6 years. It seems that researchers have been paying more attention to the proper use of statistics in recent years. It is expected that these positive trends will continue in APS.

The rapid development of society promotes the rapid improvement of science and technology. On this basis, the development of nanotechnology has also made great achievements and has been applied to all walks of life. Among them, nanotitanium oxide provides favorable conditions for the medical treatment of various joint injuries. And sports rehabilitation training also plays an irreplaceable role in the treatment of joint injury, promoting the rapid recovery of joint injury. Boxing is a sport in which boxing gloves are worn for fighting. It has both amateur and professional competitions. The purpose of this paper is to study the therapeutic effect of nanotitanium oxide combined with sports rehabilitation training on the wrist joint injury of boxers. According to the therapeutic effect of the research, it can provide useful treatment basis for clinical treatment and help boxers recover wrist joint injury, so as to carry out boxing training later. The method adopted in this paper is as follows: first, the subjects were randomly divided into nanotitanium oxide combined with sports rehabilitation training group, nanotitanium oxide treatment group, sports rehabilitation training treatment group, and control group. Then, the subjects were tested with the score table, and the score data were recorded. Finally, chi-square test was used to test the experimental results. In conclusion, through the research and comparison, it is found that nanotitanium oxide combined with sports rehabilitation training can reduce the pain of boxers’ wrist joint injury; after the treatment of wrist joint injury of boxers by nanotitanium oxide combined with sports rehabilitation training, the pain score decreased, and the daily function was improved; the PT score before the experiment was 15%, and the peak torque score after the experiment was 26%. The Pt/BW score was 22% before the experiment and 37% after the experiment. This reflects the strength of wrist muscle contraction, judging that the stability of wrist joint is enhanced after the experiment; nanotitanium oxide combined with exercise rehabilitation training can increase the sensitivity of wrist joint after the treatment of boxer wrist joint injury.

Background: Statistical methods (SM) are a ubiquitous tool in research. This study aimed to review SM used in original article published in the Archives of Iranian Medicine (AIM) and assess their effect on article acceptance period. Methods: The original articles published in the period 2015–2019 from volumes 18 to 22 and issues 1 to 12 of the AIM were reviewed and six items such as SM, study design, statistical population, sample size, software and acceptance period were extracted. Mean (SD), frequency (percentage) and multiple response analysis (MRA) were used for description. The Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman correlation coefficient were used for data analysis in SPSS 26 with significance level at 5%. Results: During the study period, 423 original articles were reviewed. The statistical population in most of them was patients (38.8% and 164 articles), and most studies (51.5% and 218 articles) had a sample size of less than 500 people. The study design in most of the articles was analytical-observational (55.1% and 233 articles), and 79.7% (337 articles) used SPSS for data analysis. The median (IQR) acceptance period was 194 (134.25). MRA results showed that the highest rate of use of SM was related to descriptive statistics (277 articles, 30.3%) and Chi square test (130 articles, 14.2%). In the last two years, the acceptance period had a declining trend. There was no significant relation between mentioned variables and acceptance period (P>0.05). Conclusion: Contrary to the researchers’ misconceptions, the acceptance period was not affected by SM, study design, statistical population, sample size, or type of software.
