Research for reducing the Minimum Miscible Pressure of crude oil and carbon dioxide by injecting citric acid isobutyl ester

Abstract: Carbon dioxide miscible flooding has become one of the important technologies for improving oil recovery. The Minimum Miscible Pressure (MMP) is the key parameter to realize miscible flooding. As the MMP in the research area is higher than the formation fracture pressure, miscible flooding cannot be formed. To address this problem, it is necessary to find a way to reduce the MMP. Citric acid isobutyl ester is chosen to reduce the MMP of carbon dioxide and crude oil in this research. The effect of citric acid i… Show more

“…Theoretically at MMP the maximum possible oil recovery ( ~70% in field scenario) can be achieved leading to huge economic benefit [48]. MMP is considered to be a key factor in evaluating whether a reservoir fulfills miscible flooding [49]. If the MMP is lower than the reservoir pressure, it is assumed to be a reservoir that is miscible with CO 2 ; otherwise, it is a reservoir that is immiscible with CO 2 .…”

“…Surfactants are organic compounds with amphiphilic groups, containing two groups with different polarities and hydrophilic properties. Their addition in small amounts can significantly reduce the interfacial tension in the solution, alter the interface state of the solution system, and result in a series of effects such as wetting, emulsification, and solubilization [28][29][30].…”

“…At present, scholars have carried out in-depth research on the oil increase mechanism of CO 2 huf and puf and feld implementation parameters (such as injection volume, soaking time, and production parameters) [17,18]. Trough nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), the distribution of residual oil after supercritical CO 2 huf and puf of low permeability core is studied [19].…”
