Research İnto Complex Formation of Tungsten(vi) With 2-Hydroxy-5-Bromothiophenol and Aminophenols

The interaction of tungsten(VI) with 2-hydroxy-5-bromothiophenol (HBTP) in the presence of aminophenols (APs)was studied as follows:(N,N-diethylaminomethylthio)-4-methoxyphenol (AP 1), 2-(N,N-dibuthylaminomethylthio)-4-methoxyphenol (AP 2), 2,6-bis-(N,Ndimethylaminomethyl)-4-methylphenol (AP 3), 2,6-bis-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)-4-chlorophenol (AP 4), 2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)-4-methylphenol (AP 5), 2-(N,N-diethylaminomethyl)-4-bromophenol (AP 6) and 4-chloro-2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)-6-thiophenylmethylphenol (AP 7).The obtained ternary complexes have a composition of 1:2:2 (W:HBTP:AP) or 1:2:1 (AP 3 and AP 4). The optimum conditions for their formation and subsequent solvent extraction were found: organic solvent (chloroform), pH (4.1-5.6), concentration of reagents and extraction time. Degrees of extraction made up 98.1-98.6%. The complexes have absorption maximum at 470-482 nm and molar absorptivity coefficients ranged between (2.6-3.9)10 4. The Beer's law is observed in the range of concentrations of tungsten 0.2-16 µg/ml.

Research Into Reactions of Chrome (Vi) Complexation With 2- Hydroxy-5-Iodiophenol in the Presence of Hydrophobic Amines

Spectrophotometric methods were used to study the complexation of chromium (VI) with 2hydroxy-5-iodothiophenol (HITP) in the presence of hydrophobic amines. Out of hydrophobic amines (Am), there were used o-oxylidine and m-xylidine. Chloroform, dichloroethane and chlorobenzene proved to be the best extractants. Following a single extraction with chloroform, 97.4-98.8% of chromium was extracted as an ionic associate. It revealed that mixed ligand complexes are formed in a weakly acidic medium (pH 0.2-6.9). For the formation and extraction of MLC, a 26-30-fold excess of complexing agents is required. For example, optimal conditions for the formation and extraction of these compounds are provided at 1.0×10-3 M HITP and (1.12-1.16)×10-3 M Am. Maximum in the absorption spectrum of the complexes is observed at λ = 475-492 nm. Molar absorption coefficients are (3.1-3.3)×10 4. The stoichiometric ratio of the reacting components is Cr:HITP:Am = 1:3:3. The Beer's law is in effect in the range of 0.5-20 µg/ml chromium concentrations. Based on the evidence found, photometric methods for the determination of chromium in soils were developed.

Spectrophotometric methods were used to study the reaction of complexation of tungsten with derivatives of o-hydroxythiophenol (HTPDs) {2-hydroxy-5-chlorothiophenol (HCTP), 2-hydroxy-5- bromothiophenol (HBTP) and 2-hydroxy-5-iodothiophenol (HITP )} in the presence of aminophenols. Aminophenols used were 2(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl)-4-chlorophenol (AP1) and 2(N,Ndimethylaminomethyl)-4-bromophenol (AP2), 2(N,N-dimethylaminomethyl) -4-iodophenol (AP3).Optimal conditions for the formation and extraction of mixed ligand complexes (MLC) were found, and the ratios of the components in the complexes established. It revealed that MLC are formed in a weakly acidic environment (рНopt 4.5-5.5). The maximum in the light absorption spectrum is observed at λ=460-490 nm. The molar coefficient of light absorption is equal to ε = (2.0-2.8) × 10 4 . Optimal conditions for the formation and extraction of these compounds is the concentration of (1.2-2.5) × 10-3 mol / l GTP and (2.0-2.8)×10-3 mol/l AP. The maximum optical density is reached within 5-8 minutes. Tungsten MLC extracts with HTP and AP obeys Beer's law at concentrations of 0.04–3.8 μg/5 ml. The proposed method was applied to determine Tungsten in steel and in soils.
