Research on Biomarkers of Different Growth Periods and Different Drying Processes of Citrus wilsonii Tanaka Based on Plant Metabolomics

Abstract: Fruit of Citrus wilsonii Tanaka called as “Xiang yuan” in Chinese, which means fragrant and round. It was widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. This fruit has well-known health benefits such as antioxidant, radical scavenging, and anti-inflammatory. Naringin, deacetylnomilin, citric acid, limonin, and nomilin were the characteristic components of Citrus wilsonii Tanaka. Although the fruit of Citrus wilsonii Tanaka possessed many applications, there was a lack of research on the growth period a… Show more

“…Metabolomics based on high-throughput technologies can provide comprehensive information regarding the similarities and differences in metabolite composition among samples, and are powerful tools for analyzing complex regulatory processes in terms of metabolic pathways or regulatory networks ( Lin et al, 2015 ; Feng et al, 2018 ). Metabolite profiling studies, especially metabolomics based on high-resolution mass spectrometry with high selectivity, have been widely applied in citrus research ( Zhang et al, 2020 ; Yan et al, 2021 ; Huang et al, 2021 ; Dadwal et al, 2022 ; Wang et al, 2022 ).…”

“…A total of 74 metabolites were reported during grain developmental stages in wheat with a correlation between metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, organic acids, amines, and lipids ( Zhen et al., 2016 ). Metabolites such as organic acids (L-tartaric acid, a-hydroxyisobutyric acid, and 4-acetamidobutyric acid), sugars (melezitose, beta-D-lactose, D-sedheptulose 7-phosphate, 2-dexyribose 1-phosphate, and raffinose), and phenols (coniferin, curcumins, and feruloylputrescine) are reported to regulate post-harvest ripening of tomato fruit under low temperature ( Bai et al., 2023 ), and these could be validated and used as biomarkers in practical crop improvement ( Wen et al., 2014 ; Yan et al., 2021 ).…”

“…The peel or fruits of different varieties of Citrus provide raw materials for some traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), such as C. maxima (Burm.) Merr., C. reticulata Blanco, C. wilsonii Tanaka, and several others [ 3 , 4 , 5 ]. The Rutaceae family also includes less-known species, notably the Ruta genus, which comprises about 40 different species largely distributed in the Mediterranean region.…”
