Research on co-simulation of multi-resolution models based on HLA

Abstract: Intelligence, hierarchy, and multi-resolution (MR) modeling are vital to the complex system simulation. Based on the proposed MR-Agent-Discrete EVent System (MR-Agent-DEVS) specification, this paper discusses the co-simulation of MR models under high-level architecture (HLA). First, the structure and formal description of MR-Agent-DEVS federate models were proposed. The communication mechanism and simulation process of MR-Agent-DEVS federate models were analyzed. Finally, an example of distributed interactive … Show more

“…The applicability of simulation interoperability methods to support communication between members of heterogeneous agent population and vice versa is a field of interest to the simulation community as well, such as recently published by Cao. 123 As agent-based models are often used to support complexity research and computational social science, 124 the lessons learned captured in this article will be useful for these emergent application domains as well.…”

“…As mentioned in Section 1, co-simulation and closure modeling are two prevalent techniques for building composed simulation models of interaction systems [10,18,20,24]. Co-modeling is another composable modeling technique that is closely related to cosimulation in which a unified language is used to specify sub-system models [10,54].…”

“…Coordination of component models is conducted via an "orchestrator" which synchronizes the transfer of data between component models dynamically during simulation execution. The result is a global simulation of the system as a composition of simulators [10,18].…”

“…6 The papers ''Research on Co-Simulation of multiresolution models based on HLA'' (by Qi Cao) and ''Combining P-DEVS and Modelica for Describing Agent-Based Models'' (by Victorino Sanz and Alfonso Urquia) focus on advancing the state of the art of model representation, composability, and reusability for Agent-Based Models (ABMs). Cao 7 proposes the Multi-Resolution-Agent-DEVS formalism that allows specifying models at different resolution levels. They focus on the cosimulation mechanism of these federated models.…”
