Research on Hydrogen Consumption and Driving Range of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle under the CLTC-P Condition

Abstract: Hydrogen consumption and mileage are important economic indicators of fuel cell vehicles. Hydrogen consumption is the fundamental reason that restricts mileage. Since there are few quantitative studies on hydrogen consumption during actual vehicle operation, the high cost of hydrogen consumption in outdoor testing makes it impossible to guarantee the accuracy of the test. Therefore, this study puts forward a test method based on the hydrogen consumption of fuel cell vehicles under CLTC-P operating conditions t… Show more

“…As presented in Figure 3e, the cumulative driving distance of the CLTC-P cycle is 14.48 km, including three driving modes, low speed, medium speed, and high speed, which are matched with the urban driving mode, suburban driving mode, and high-speed driving mode used by Chinese drivers on a daily basis [62]. The operating time is 1800 s, and the low-speed operating time is 674 s, with a time ratio of 37.4%.…”

“…Therefore, under ideal conditions, 39 kWh of electricity and 8.9 L of water (H 2 O) are required to produce 1 kg of hydrogen H 2 at 25 C and 1 atmosphere pressure [59]. If a hydrogen fuel cell consumes about 0.9 kg/100 km [60], about 48 L of water (H 2 O) would be needed to cover 600 km under ideal conditions. Considering that it would take around 36-60 L of fossil fuels to cover this distance, it is very unlikely at this stage that hydrogen can replace fossil fuels as a vehicle fuel.…”

“…Likewise, based on the average annual traveled kilometers by taxis i (73,300 km per taxi) [34] and the average hydrogen consumption rate of 0.87 Km), the annual hydrogen consumption of a hydrogen fuel cell taxi in determined (642.1 Kg). Next, using the average hydrogen price in 2021 (7.78 [36], the annual total hydrogen cost per taxi was determined, as shown in T worth mentioning that the hydrogen consumption rate that was used in this s average of three values: the actual average consumption rate of hydrogen fue cars tested in China [37], a comprehensive study conducted by Zemo [38 consumption rate of the Hyundai Nexo passenger car [39], which is very pop category.…”
