Research on longitudinal vibration suppression of underwater vehicle shafting based on particle damping

Abstract: A particle damper is applied to suppress the longitudinal vibration of underwater vehicle shafting in order to reduce vibration level and improve silence and stealth of underwater vehicles. The model of rubber-coated steel particle damper was established with discrete element method and PFC3D simulation software, the damping energy consumption law of collision and friction between particle and damper and between particle and particle investigated, the effects of particle radius, mass filling ratio, cavity leng… Show more

“…Scholars focused on the higher improvement in the vibration reduction behavior under harmonic and seismic excitations 14 16 ; for instance, in order to mitigate the structure vibration caused by the sloshing oscillation under seismic excitation, anti-sloshing baffles with various configurations are installed inside the storage containers 17 . Numerous investigations using numerical and experimental methods can be found on evaluating efficiency of internal baffles in reducing sloshing in containers.…”

“…Wang et al 24 optimized parameters of a mass damper to control the vibration responses under an impulse excitation. In addition, the rubber damping materials can also be used as auxiliary components of novel vibration absorbers, such as the coated layers for the particles of the particle dampers, 25 or the damping layers of the periodic structures for vibration suppression. Yang et al 26 arranged the rubber layers and metal plates periodically to reduce the transmissions of the sound underwater.…”
