Research on Tensile Mechanical Properties of GFRP Rebar after High Temperature

Abstract: By tensile tests on GFRP rebar after high temperature, the change regularity and influent factor are analyzed. The results show that: With the temperature increasing, vitrification, carbonization, decomposition at high temperature test section of the GFRP rebar are aggravating , and their mechanical properties are deteriorating. At the same time, the limited tensile strength and ultimate tensile elastic modulus decreased in different degree.

“…Experimental data showing the reduction in tensile strength of CFRP, GFRP and AFRP with temperature from 15 sources have been reported in the literature 14 .In an attempt to evaluate the response of FRP reinforced concrete members subjected to fire, researchers 15 measured the tensile strength of CFRP and GFRP rods at elevated temperatures up to 700 o C. The ultimate tensile strength of CFRP sheets at elevated temperatures has also been measured [16][17][18] . Researchers have also investigated the effect of temperature on the tensile strength of GFRP rebars [19][20][21][22][23] and GFRP sheets…”

“…Its variation with temperature has also been studied by a wide range of researchers. Experimental results regarding its variation in CFRP 14,15,18,25,26 , GFRP 14,15,[19][20][21][24][25][26] and AFRP 14,25 specimens have been reported meticulously in the literature. Table 1 shows the tested temperature range in the different experimental series.…”

“…In the test, the aging days of the GFRP rebars in alkali solution are 100 days, 300 days, and 660 days, which are normal immersion periods considered in the accelerated aging test. Also, two levels of preheating temperature conditions (120 ∘ C, 200 ∘ C) are considered as similar to the temperature ranges adopted in the previous "postheating tension test" [9][10][11][12].…”

“…Such type of test is called "hot tension test." Another testing type is "postheating tension test" [9][10][11][12]. In postheating tension tests the GFRP bars are firstly exposed to temperatures between 100 ∘ C and 400 ∘ C for 0.5 to 3 hours.…”
