Research on TiAl Alloy Porous Metal Flow Restrictors

Abstract: For the restriction application, the uniformity of pore size and connectivity of pore channels are much more important for TiAl restrictor. TiAl porous materials have expansion phenomenon during reaction sintering for the Kirkendall Effect, and the pores were generated by its partial diffusion. In this paper, elemental powders blending and reaction sintering methods were adopted to prepare TiAl porous flow restrictor materials. The influence of particle size, the fraction of Ti and Al powder, pressing pressure… Show more

“…Therefore, the applications of titanium aluminides are not only limited to the aerospace and automotive industries but also recently, porous Ti x Al y is used as gas and liquid filters at elevated temperatures. [3] Higher production costs hinders the use of conventional processing routes such as casting, powder metallurgy, investment casting, and ignot forging for fabriction of Ti x Al y . [2] Also, the brittlenss of the Ti x Al y makes them difficult to machine materials.…”

“…Titanium aluminides (Ti x Al y ) have low density (3.9 g cm − 3 ), good resistance to oxidation, and high strength at elevated temperature. Therefore, the applications of titanium aluminides are not only limited to the aerospace and automotive industries but also recently, porous Ti x Al y is used as gas and liquid filters at elevated temperatures …”
