Research Polyphenylene Sulfide Fiber-Reinforced Elastic Wheel Polishing based on Soft Consolidation Abrasive

Abstract

In industry 4.0 background, traditional technical industry is mentioned more and more times. Technological innovation has been advanced in precision-machine internationally. Faced to remained peak of surface layer distributed non-uniformly, this article proposes polyphenylene sulfide fiber-reinforced method to get highly sophisticated surface. Based on different hard matrix rubber of wheels, fiber added into wheels to improve elastic modulus and guarantees abrasive particles which contacts with workpiece distributed evenly while polishing. This method reduces scratches and avoids subsurface damage when wheel polishes in declining angle. Compared to different proportional fiber, two hard wheels in 5% fiber can get smoother and parallel surface when wheel rotates in high speed. Predicted model of rubber built based on Halpin-Tsai empirical formula, which displays elastic modulus of fiber is much higher than matrix rubber and adds polyphenylene sulfide can enhance anti-truncation ability of wheel exponentially. Rubber surface layer supports soft consolidation abrasive elastically to ensure particles arranged horizontally which can be reflected from observing deformation and stress of wheel by ansys. This phenomenon called elastic support that guarantees every particle have same volume material removed on contact area to get smoother surface. In following polishing experiments, carbide surface polished by 5% fibrous elastic wheel is the best among 0%, 2% ,4% and 5% polyphenylene sulfide. Fiber-reinforced elastic wheel surely promotes carbide polished effectively.
