Research Progress and Prospect of Mechanized Harvesting Technology in the First Season of Ratoon Rice

Abstract: The first seasonal harvest technology of ratoon rice requires the least rolling with suitable stubble height required by agronomy when the ratoon rice is nearly mature. Mechanized harvesting in the first season of ratoon rice needs to finish harvesting, threshing, cleaning, straw treatment, grain transportation, grain collection and other processes at one time with a low rolling rate and low rolling degree. Limited by the production conditions such as wet and soft fields, and wet, thick and strong straw, harve… Show more

“…Efforts to implement technological advancements in agriculture, such as the utilization of rice harvesters, are a desired objective. The shortage of agricultural labor or farm laborers has led to the utilization of agricultural instruments and technology at different phases of farming operations, such as rice cultivation [7][8][9]. Consequently, the utilization of sophisticated and effective rice harvesters becomes imperative in order to enhance agricultural output and address the problem of manpower scarcity [10][11].…”

“…Amid prolonged periods of drought, farmers frequently encounter difficulties in procuring water for the purpose of irrigating their agricultural plots. During the rainy season, rivers often experience overflow and inundate villages, resulting in detrimental effects on their rice fields [7][8][9][10][11][12]. Hence, there is a requirement for rice harvesters that can function optimally in muddy field conditions, facilitating the efficient execution of the harvesting operation.…”

“…However, during machine harvesting, the straight-line crushing rate (the ratio of the crawler crushing area to the harvesting area) is as high as 40-50% [6,7], and the turning area is 70-80%, as shown in Figure 1, which results in delayed development of regenerative axillary buds and severe yield reduction in the second season (with the ratoon yield in the crushed area accounting for about 30% of the uncrushed area) [8][9][10]. Therefore, increasing the yield of the second season of ratoon rice is of great significance to the development of ratoon rice [11,12].…”

In order to address the technical challenge of signifi second-season rice caused by the high rolling compacti harvesting of the first-season ratoon rice, Yang et al attempt quality of the ratoon season through optimized variety techniques [13].…”

“…A thorough understanding of the field's characteristics and spatial variability allows for the optimization of input utilization, customizing management strategies, and waste minimization, resulting in enhanced resource efficiency and cost savings [9]. The precise guidance and automated steering capabilities of GNSS-based systems contribute to more consistent seed placement, fertilizer application, and other field operations, resulting in improved crop uniformity, optimized input usage, and increased yields [10]. Map-based VRT systems utilize GNSS positioning to deliver site-specific applications of inputs, such as fertilizers, pesticides, and irrigation water [11].…”
