Research Progress of Continuous Blood Purification in the Treatment of Severe Sepsis in Children

Abstract: Pediatric sepsis is the most common disease in pediatric critical illness, because the main reason for the disease is that children's immune level is not high or the immune system is not perfect, when children's lung, abdominal cavity and blood system are infected, it will cause systemic inflammation and immune dysfunction. Early clinical symptoms are mainly irregular and intermittent fever. When the disease develops to severe sepsis, the children will suffer from acute heart failure, oliguria, respiratory alk… Show more

“…At the same time, continuous blood purification treatment will involve the extracorporeal circulation of blood. During this process, if the sterile state of the operating environment cannot be guaranteed, or the connection of equipment pipelines and filters is not tight, the patient may be reinfected, thereby aggravating the disease [ 6 ]. Therefore, adding certain nursing interventions can help patients control their condition, speed up their recovery, and bring some spiritual comfort to patients, thereby enhancing their confidence in overcoming the disease.…”

“…Continuous blood purification (CBP), also known as continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), is currently one of the main treatments for patients with sepsis [ 6 ]. It functionally replaces the kidneys of the human body, makes up for the decline or failure of the kidneys caused by sepsis, circulates the blood outside the body, and uses instruments to filter the blood.…”

“…It has not only been limited to the treatment of children with acute kidney injury but has gradually expanded to the application of various critical cases in the PICU, including the treatment of patients with severe sepsis. Increasing attention has been paid to the treatment of children [ 7 ]. In the past, most scholars believed that the initial indication of CBP treatment was acute kidney damage, such as serum potassium concentration higher than 6.5 mmol/L, pulmonary edema, heart failure, and sudden increase in blood pressure, or only when symptoms of uremia appeared.…”

“…Sepsis refers to a Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) triggered by infection, causing pathological physiological processes that damage tissues. Posing a serious threat to patient's lives, it is a common and frequently occurring disease in the intensive care unit characterized by a dangerous condition and a high mortality rate [1,2] . Severe sepsis remains a formidable challenge despite the notable progress made in critical care medicine in recent years.…”
