Research trends in international science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education conference series: An analysis of a decade of proceedings

Abstract: This paper reports on the results of a descriptive analysis of 675 publications included in the proceedings of five editions of the International Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in Education Conferences held in Australia, Canada, and China over 9 years between 2012 and 2021. Peer-reviewed academic journals are traditional sources of high quality and established research. Yet these papers might take months and sometimes years to get published. On the other hand, an analysis of research foci re… Show more

“…Recent educational reforms around the world have been actively promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in vocational schools [1]. This is reflected in the analysis of 675 articles and proceedings from five editions spanning 2012-2021, showing that K-12 vocational schools/SMKs have a strong engagement with a high percentage in the fields of teaching, teachers, learning, and vocational education [2]. This certainly indicates an interest in teaching and learning in K-12 vocational education [3], [4].…”

“…In view of the above, it is essential that engineers acquire selfcriticism and peer-critique skills during their training (Mesutoglu et al, 2022;Santos et al, 2023). In doing so, future professional engineers will gain critical expectations toward their own work and the work of their peers, with the final aim of arriving at the most effective solutions (Siu, 1999), thereby guaranteeing the fulfillment of their professional commitments (Revilla-Cuesta et al, 2023).…”
