Resection of esophageal duplication cyst in a 6-month child: a surgical challenge by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery VATS

Abstract: Introduction and importance: Esophageal duplication cysts (EDCs) are rare congenital entities, with an incidence of 1:100,00. The majority of patients are asymptomatic and lesions are usually found incidentally on imaging. However, these cysts were removed via open surgery. Nowadays, video-assisted thoracoscopy surgery (VATS) is an alternative safe method to remove ECDs. Case presentation: Here we present a 6-month-child male complaining of shortness of… Show more

“…The u-VATS approach could be performed in hemodynamically patients by experienced u-VATS surgeons and specialized nurses for this approach. Previously, we performed a surgical challenge in a 6 months child for resection of Esophageal duplication cyst [ 9 ]. Many researchers believe that u-VATS is safe and feasible approach for removing foreign bodies compared to conventional thoracotomy.…”

“…There has been an important revival in thoracoscopic surgery over the last two decades. Numerous papers have been published that describe performing complex operations using the uniportal VATS method via the intercostal and subxiphoid strategies [ [10] , [11] , [12] , [13] , [14] ]. We discovered only a few publications in the literate describing the method of uniportal VATS as a surgical treatment for pulmonary hydatid cysts [ [15] , [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] ].…”
