Reshaping Special Education

Abstract

The current chapter critically highlights the advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it has reshaped the field practice of special education. AI is transforming global education, particularly for students with disabilities. It enables personalised, scalable learning experiences that enhance engagement and teaching efficacy. Tools like VR simulations, Google Glass, and Lexplore assist with social interactions and reading difficulties. AI applications, such as ALEKS and Q-interactive, adjust learning difficulty based on student responses, while platforms like Carnegie Learning and DreamBox offer personalised feedback. AI's integration with evidence-based practices like Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has maximised learning outcomes. Research indicates significant AI benefits in special education and allied fields, including speech-language therapy, occupational therapy, and clinical psychology.
