Lavender essential oil from the aerial parts of Lavandula angustifolia Mill. was analyzed by GC-MS equipped with three capillary columns of different polarities, which were HP-1, HP-5 ms and HP-INNOWax. A total of 40 compounds were identified by GC-MS, accounting for 92.03% of the total essential oil compositions. Nineteen monomers were separated by column chromatography and improved preparative gas chromatography (pGC), six of which could not be retrieved from the NIST 14 (National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA; 14th edition) library database. Fifteen compounds were identified for the first time in lavender essential oil. The improved pGC not only doubled the efficiency but also greatly reduced the cost.

O ácaro-da-necrose, Aceria guerreronis Keifer (Acari: Eriophyidae), é a principal praga do coqueiro no Brasil. O controle químico com acaricidas é amplamente utilizado para controlar essa praga. Frente aos diversos problemas sociais, econômicos e ambientais ocasionados pelo uso indiscriminado de acaricidas, são necessárias alternativas ambientalmente viáveis para o controle dessa praga como o uso de fungos entomopatogênicos. Assim, este trabalho objetivou estimar a letalidade do fungo Beauveria bassiana (Bals.)Vuill. (Hypocreales: Cordycipitaceae) a A. guerreronis e avaliar a seletividade do óleo de nim, óleo mineral e da calda sulfocálcica no crescimento micelial do fungo in vitro. Esses óleos e a calda são defensivos alternativos usados no controle de pragas do coqueiro, no entanto não se conhece seus possíveis efeitos deletérios sobre B. bassiana. Seis concentrações crescentes do fungo foram pulverizadas em arenas contendo A. guerreronis para estimar as concentrações letais (CL). Posteriormente, os óleos de nim, mineral e a calda sulfocálcica foram pipetados em placas de Petri para determinar a sua seletividade ao fungo. A concentração letal média (CL50) estimada de B. bassiana foi de 1,31×105 conídios/mL e a CL80 foi de 2,04×106 conídios/mL. O óleo mineral foi seletivo a B. bassiana, enquanto a calda sulfocálcica não é compatível com este fungo. Assim, conclui-se que o fungo B. bassiana apresenta potencial de controle de A. guerreronis, bem como o óleo mineral pode ser empregado no manejo de pragas na cultura do coqueiro sem que interfira significativamente no crescimento micelial do fungo, e possivelmente em sua eficiência no controle do ácaro.

Lime sulphur is used worldwide in agriculture to control pests and diseases. Our objective was to determine the effect of lime sulphur applications in an orange orchard on soil chemical properties and foliar nutrients after seven years of use to control B. yothersi. Soil and leaf samples were collected in two consecutive years for determination of soil chemical properties and nutritional analysis, respectively. We also assessed severity of citrus leprosis and productivity of plants. The applications of lime sulphur reduced pH values in CaCl2 and increased levels of S-SO42- in subsurface soil layer. Plants treated with lime sulphur had thehighestleaf concentrations of Ca and S and of the micronutrients B, Cu, Mn e Zn. On the other hand, lime sulphur was able to reduce severity of citrus leprosis and had a positive effect on citrus productivity. The use of lime sulfur must be moderate, as the excessive use of this pesticide can cause imbalances in soil and plants, affecting the quality of food produced and causing negative impacts on the environment.
