Resistance of Straw-Geopolymer Materials to Acid and Alkali Attack

Abstract: Straw fibers reinforced geopolymer, a new type of metakaolin-based geopolymer, was synthesized in a specific formulation with rice straw fibers added. The straw-geopolymers were soaked in sulfuric acid solution at pH of 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0, respectively, and sodium hydroxide solution at pH of 9.0, 11.0 and 13.0, respectively. Compressive strengths and microstructural changes were studied. The results showed that after being immersed in acid solution at a pH of 1.0 or alkali solution at a pH of 13.0 for 28 days, t… Show more

“…Malkawi et al [114] used palm oil clinker as a lightweight aggregate to prepare GP composites. Compared with the control group, the workability of light aggregate GP From the perspective of low carbon and environmental protection, relevant personnel also carried out research on the related properties of waste PFRGs [113]. Liu et al [85] studied the influence of four variables, including thermal properties, mechanical properties, hydraulic properties, and microscopic morphology, on the properties of biological thermal insulation materials using wheat straw as aggregate and GP as binder.…”

“…However, in a strong acid solution, the properties of CFGCs also change greatly. Jin [ 81 ] synthesized a metakaolin-based geopolymer from rice straw fiber. The straw geopolymer was soaked in sulfuric acid solution at pH 1.0, 3.0 and 5.0 and sodium hydroxide solution at pH 9.0, 11.0 and 13.0.…”
