Resistin and Cardiac Arrest—A Prospective Study

Abstract: The systemic response to ischemia-reperfusion that occurs after a cardiac arrest (CA) followed by the return of spontaneous circulation leads to endothelial toxicity and cytokine production, both responsible for the subsequent occurrence of severe cardiocirculatory dysfunction and early death. Resistin is emerging as a biomarker of proinflammatory status and myocardial ischemic injury and as a mediator of endothelial dysfunction. The study aimed to analyze the possible associations between several clinical and… Show more

“…A close correlation between high serum resistin levels, cardiac comorbidities, and post-CA shock has been demonstrated, where the impact of post-CA shock on the serum resistin concentration was greater than that of cardiac comorbidities [99].…”

“…Resistin is a marker of neutrophil activation 63 . Two studies, one released as two papers, reported an unadjusted association of resistin with 30‐day mortality 11,64,65 . When measured within 24 h of ROSC, resistin was more strongly associated with 30‐day mortality than NSE 65 .…”
