Abstract:The Trichophyton (T.) mentagrophytes complex encompasses common dermatophytes causing superficial mycoses in humans and animals. The taxonomy of the complex is unstable, with conflicting views on the species status of some taxa, particularly T. indotineae and T. interdigitale. Due to presence of intermediate genotypes, MALDI-TOF MS and ITS rRNA sequencing cannot accurately distinguish all taxa in the complex, potentially contributing to clinical misdiagnoses. In order to resolve the phylogenetic relationship o… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
