Resonant photoemission at the L3absorption edge of Mn and Ti and the electronic structure of 1T-Mn0.2TiSe2

Abstract: Resonant valence band x-ray photoelectron spectra (ResPES) excited near the 2p(3/2) core level energies, 2p x-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) and L(3,2) x-ray absorption spectra (XAS) of Ti and Mn in single crystals of 1T-Mn(0.2)TiSe(2) were studied for the first time. The ionic-covalent character of the bonds formed by the Mn atoms with the neighboring Se atoms in the octahedral coordination is established. From the XPS and XAS measurements compared with the results of atomic multiplet calculations of Ti and … Show more

“…[ 47–49 ] These modifications may be responsible for the enhanced synergistic adsorption of CTAB–MXene substrate for the polyselenides. The XPS spectrum of Ti 2p in Figure S9 in the Supporting Information further suggests that the CCNT/MXene/PP separator shows stronger Ti–Se binding energy (455 eV) [ 50 ] compared to that of MXene/PP separator after the first cycle, which is consistent with the calculation results.…”

“…It is shown previously that a chemical bond between Mn-atoms and host lattice in this compound is partially ionic as follows from the calculations 16 and experimental data. 11 In Cu 0.58 TiSe 2 , Cr 0.33 TiSe 2 , and Cr 0.5 TiTe 2 , the charge transfer probability has an intermediate value…”

“…The cause for the observed increase in the unit cell parameter c(x) can be either the ionic nature of the intercalant-lattice chemical bond, as is observed in materials intercalated with alkali metals [12,13], or the formation of hybrid states between the 3d states of the intercalant and the chalcogen, which is observed in the Mn x TiSe 2 system [14]. However, for the Fe x TiTe 2 system, the experi mental data on resonance photoemission spectros copy [1] clearly indicate a hybrid nature of the Fe3d/Ti3d states of the dispersionless bands.…”
