Resource Potential of the Beekeeping Industry of the Black Sea Region

Abstract

The article explores the resource potential of the beekeeping industry in the Black Sea region, which occupies the southern part of Ukraine. It includes Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions and Autonomous Republic of Crimea until 2014. The leading inter-branch complex of the Black Sea Economic Region is the agro-industrial complex, which has high rates of production of grain (almost a third in Ukraine), sunflower, grapes, fruits, vegetables, meat, and wool, which is 14.4% in the total volume of Ukraine. In general, agriculture in the Black Sea region is highly developed and has a multi-sectoral structure. The main areas are livestock with well-developed horticulture, viticulture and horticulture. Among the livestock, industries are the cattle-breeding of dairy and meat and dairy products, as well as pig breeding, sheep breeding, poultry farming, silk production and beekeeping. Today, the beekeeping industry is an important component of the economy of the Black Sea region, which determines the volume, supply, and value of basic food for the population of the country. Beekeeping is the basis and source of sustainable development for a number of industries, in particular the crop sector, the basis of which is the breeding, keeping and use of bees for pollination of entomophily agricultural plants and increases their productivity, pharmaceutical, food and others. On the basis of the requirements of the Laws of Ukraine "On State Support for Agriculture of Ukraine" and "On Beekeeping", the Beekeeping Industry Development Program for the period 2016-2020 was developed million and production of natural honey up to 120 thousand tons, wax up to 2.8 thousand tons. In March 2019, the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mykolayiv Oblast launched the implementation of the project "Intensification of Trade and Modernization of Beekeeping and Related Economic Sectors" (ITM BEE BSB), which will last until 26.03.2021. The implementation of this project should result in the development and modernization of beekeeping entrepreneurship, as well as the development of trade and partnership in the Black Sea region. Based on this study, the resource potential of the beekeeping industry is very important not only for the Black Sea region but also for Ukraine as a whole.
