Resource sharing begins at home: opportunities for library partnerships on a university campus

Abstract: Abstract:Typical discussions of academic library resource sharing focus on activities between and among institutions: interlibrary loan, reciprocal borrowing, document delivery, group acquisitions, etc. But there is another equally important type of cooperation, i.e. working with other campus units to provide better service, more convenience, and enhanced resources for library users. “…Most Greek libraries participate in the educational process by creating partnerships with academic staff and university faculties. Seal (2015) confirms that “While both internal and external types of collaboration benefit the university community, it is the former that directly impacts the success of student learning and career development” Some libraries collaborate with external partners – trainers and with other libraries at a local level. “…This data enabled the authors to examine whether or not students are aware of library services. "Library services" are here broadly defined to include not only traditional support services but also new, emerging areas of activity which can be categorized under the broader concept of undergraduate student support [1]. Findings indicate very poor awareness of library offerings although participants were aware of the library as a study space.…”

“…In the higher education context, this can be accomplished by librarians engaging with educational learning theories, workshopping theories into practices, and mentorship for those who have limited awareness of theories. Librarians could also focus on partnerships with other academic services, such as the teaching and learning services and working collaboratively with the teaching faculty as a shared approach to pedagogical developments (Bolan et al, 2015; Dawes, 2019; Otto, 2014; Seal, 2016).…”
