Respiratory constraints during activities in daily life and the impact on health status in patients with early-stage COPD: a cross-sectional study

Abstract: In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), exercise capacity is reduced, resulting over time in physical inactivity and worsened health status. It is unknown whether ventilatory constraints occur during activities of daily life (ADL) in early stages of COPD. The aim of this study was to assess respiratory mechanics during ADL and to study its consequences on dyspnoea, physical activity and health status in early-stage COPD compared with healthy controls. In this cross-sectional study, 39 ea… Show more

“…Third, the analyses were adjusted for a number of chronic health conditions associated with vision impairment, hearing impairment, limitation in physical function, limitation in ADLs, and mortality. [35][36][37][38][39][40] Fourth, the association of sensory impairment with the health expectancy estimates was consistent among men and women. Finally, previous studies do point out that sensory impairments are a leading nonfatal contributor to the burden of disease in older adults, 41 making these impairments a good target for interventions to compress morbidity.…”

“…Second, we used two health expectancy outcomes, both of importance to older adults, with consistent results for either. Third, the analyses were adjusted for a number of chronic health conditions associated with vision impairment, hearing impairment, limitation in physical function, limitation in ADLs, and mortality . Fourth, the association of sensory impairment with the health expectancy estimates was consistent among men and women.…”

“…In our study patients with mild COPD, even in GOLD group A or B, achieved lower physical results in the 6-minute walk, restocking and climbing stairs. According to van Helvoort et al (31), and Schneider and Funk (32) however, patients with COPD had a lower power during CPET. Patients with COPD stage II and higher were reported to be usually less physically active than healthy subjects of the same age group (17).…”

“…Hence, various medical amenities are provided to ensure the continuity of treatment as well as to ensure that patients can lead better lives outside the hospital. The status of COPD patients at the time of hospitalization and the medical amenities provided during this period of time have an impact on the prognosis of the disease MP-2020-306 as well as their frequency of application to the hospital (2). Recently, it is considered that informing COPD patients about their disease, providing medical equipment they can use at home by themselves and teaching respiratory exercises will lead to significant improvements in their qualities of life.…”
