Response of dental pulp capped with calcium-silicate based material, calcium hydroxide and adhesive resin in rabbit teeth

Abstract: Direct pulp capping induces a local inflammatory process. Several biomaterials have been used for this procedure. The aim of this study was to compare the dentinal bridge thickness using three different pulp capping biomaterials with the conventional technique (high speed diamond bur) or Er-Yag laser, 1 month after pulp effraction. Materials and Methods: Forty two Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal surface of 4 maxillary incisors and 2 mandibular incisors of New Zealand rabbits. Specimens were divide… Show more

“…31,33,34 the evaluation is done in two-time point after 1week to evaluate the initial pulp response and after 4 weeks to evaluate the final tissue response as the rabbit incisors are continuously growing and these period were established by previous studies. 31,40,41 In 1 st week period, in the non-capped control group, Although RMGIC cements used to seal the cavity were not in direct contact with the pulp, it's impossible to exclude that they didn't have any effect on the inflammatory process. However, 83.3% of the control group showed moderate pulpal inflammation, which may be due to traumatic exposure procedure, 42 as well as the cytotoxic effect of resin-modified glass ionomer 43 .…”

“…Most DPC materials cause superficial necrosis after direct application over exposed pulp tissues 9 ; they induce mineralization due to their antimicrobial properties, enabling the underlying pulp cells to heal and regenerate 10 . However, eliminating bacterial organisms does not directly influence reparative dentin formation since these effects are indirect; hence, the evidence on the role of calcium ions and antimicrobial properties of DPC materials in reparative dentin formation remains to be determined 11 .…”
