“…Open discussion was absent in 3 adolescents, 2 girls refusing to talk about the operation at all and 1 boy being reticent about the topic. One adolescent, a 16-year-old black girl, on the other hand, was very introspective and communicative; she subsequently sent a long poem that she had written about her illness and operation to her cardiologist and surgeon (Danilowicz and Gabriel, 1976). From the answers received to the questionnaires, we were able to place the reactions into a negative and positive group.…”
