The admission of students in engineering careers in Geology, Mining, Petroleum and Environmental in the previous decade was carried out under the responsibility of the respective Faculty at the Central University of Ecuador; a decade later and by legal provision is carried out by organizations external to the academy, in the case of the country the responsibility is in the Senescyt with the project of the National Leveling and Admission System and supported by the National Institute of Educational Evaluation. In both moments knowledge tests were applied, in the first case the tests were of entrance in the subjects of mathematics, physics and chemistry, in the second case the same tests were of diagnosis. The results show a considerable decrease in the reports and describe the possible causes of this problem and are summarized in the change in the type of baccalaureate offered by schools governed by the Ministry of Education; the little experience of the organizations that carry out the admission process due to their insipid connection to the academy, the standardization of the admission test for all applicants to any career of public universities, changes in the training of high school graduates in a way that causes Formations with deficiencies that previously did not exist.
