“…Recently, Hassani et al reported an in-hospital mortality rate of 15% in octogenarians with acute coronary syndrome undergoing PCI and drug-eluting stent implantation. 1 In our investigation, the mortality rate of STEMI patients ≥85 years without cardiogenic shock was comparable (7.7%) with those previously described, 1,5,6 whereas our patients with cardiogenic shock had a mortality rate of 90%, which is higher than previously reported. 1,5,6 In our series, long-term survival of patients aged ≥85 years with STEMI treated with primary PCI was good, being that the post discharge survival was not different from that expected in a population of the same age.…”
