Abstract: It remains inconclusive whether resveratrol is indeed a CR mimetic and possesses life-prolonging properties. The limited bioavailability of resveratrol may further impede its potential effects.

“…Flavonoid consumption via diet may benefit cardiovascular health in humans [1, 2], and in some cases, flavonoid supplementation prolonged lifespan of lower model organisms such as flies and worms [3]. Since many flavonoids are known to act as free radical scavengers, putative health benefits were partly attributed to their direct antioxidant capacity.…”

“…The specific SIRT1 activator resveratrol, a naturally occurring phytochemical product in grapes and red wine, has attracted wide attention because of its antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects (Pallauf et al, 2016). Importantly, resveratrol was also shown to mediate neuroprotection in vitro and in vivo by regulating antioxidant defenses or mitochondrial function (Pallàs et al, 2013; Torres-Pérez et al, 2015).…”

“…C. elegans hatched from eggs that were released after adult nematodes were lysed in a sodium hypochlorite‐sodium hydroxide solution as previously described (Jarapalacios et al, ; Pallauf, Rimbacha, Ruppa, China, & Wolf, ). The L1 stage C. elegans were transferred onto fresh nematode growth medium (NGM) plates covered with Escherichia coli OP50, and then incubated at 25°C.…”
