Resveratrol pretreatment mitigates LPS-induced acute lung injury by regulating conventional dendritic cells’ maturation and function

Abstract: Acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe syndrome lacking efficient therapy and resulting in high morbidity and mortality. Although resveratrol (RES), a natural phytoalexin, has been reported to protect the ALI by suppressing the inflammatory response, the detailed mechanism of how RES affected the immune system is poorly studied. Pulmonary conventional dendritic cells (cDCs) are critically involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory lung diseases including ALI. In this s… Show more

“…Acute lung injury (ALI) is defined as an inflammation-mediated severe pulmonary disease that results in diffuse pulmonary interstitial and parenchymal edema, which may progress to potential acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) [ 5 ]. Recently, a study showed that the incidence rate of ALI was 1~4% and the case fatality rate was 22~65% [ 6 ].…”

“…Dendritic cells (DCs) are part of the APCs with crucial roles in developing and modulation of both innate and adaptive immune responses (Kumar, 2018). Several studies elucidated that resveratrol could suppress the maturation of DCs and induce tolerogenic DCs with a reduction in the expression of surface molecules including CD80, CD40, and major histocompatibility complex class II (MHCII), MHCI, and CD86 (B. Guo et al, 2021; Jiang et al, 2019; Švajger et al, 2010). On the other hand, resveratrol induces the production of IL‐10 in DCs, thereby suppressing the proliferation and activation of T cells, which in turn attenuates the immune‐induced inflammation in sepsis (Jiang et al, 2019).…”
