Retention force of zirconia bar retained implant overdenture: Clinical comparative study between PEEK and plastic clips.

Abstract: Aim: This study aimed to evaluate and compare retention force of two implants retained mandibular overdenture with zirconia bar using two different clip materials. Methodology: 20 completely edentulous patients (8 women and 12 men) with age ranged between 45 and 65 years were selected for this study. All patients received conventional maxillary and mandibular complete dentures. Two implants were inserted bilaterally in the mandibular canine region. CAD-CAM fabricated zirconia bar attachment was used to r… Show more

“…To evaluate patient experience, a questionnaire by Brennan et al was established with pre-coded answers in five-point Likert scale for each item; totally satisfied(=1),very satisfied(=2), satisfied(=3), unsatisfied(=4), not at all satisfied(=5). [19][20][21][22][23] (Figure 4).…”

“…16,17 Zirconia has high wear resistance, and low both thermal and electrical conductivity when compared to cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) or Gold. 18,19 The improved material strength, enhanced aesthetic and biocompatibility give zirconia great prospect to be used in a varied range of promising dental applications. It could be a material of choice for a bar attachment that is easy to process with CAD/CAM technology.…”

“…Modified PEEK materials with ceramic fillers are preferred for temporary purposes in resin bonded fixed dental prosthesis(RBFDP) since they are more aesthetic in appearance compared to metal substructures (28). Similarly, veneered PEEK can be used as the interim framework of RBFDP in the anterior region as an alternative to materials such as metal-ceramic, glass infiltrated alumina, zirconia, and lithium disilicate (17).…”

“…Another disadvantage is that the bond strength is low during the veneering process with the composite since the wettability is insufficient (16). In addition, PEEK may be appropriate for individuals with metal allergies (17). It can also be reinforced with carbon or glass fibers and modified with nanoparticles (18).…”
