“…The very term "cooperation", at least in the Spanish language, seems more constructive and positive than "accommodation"; to cooperate implies "to work together with another or others to achieve a common goal" (Real Academia Española 2022a), while "accommodate" implies "to harmonise, to adjust to a norm, to conform..." The articles in this volume examine how "reasonable accommodation" of religious differences can result in living well-or poorly-together (Barras, Selby, & Beaman, 2018). They do so by examining tensions between nativeborn African-American Muslims and their wealthier, immigrant religious brothers and sisters-in the mosque (Prickett, 2018) and in religious schools (Guhin, 2018).…”

“… 4. While debates on the place of religion in public life are present throughout Canada (see Barras et al, 2018 on this point), the province of Quebec has certainly been home to some of the most heated discussions on the topic. It is interesting to note here that the focus of Quebecois debates have both been about limiting the visibility of minority religious symbols in the public sphere, while also at the same time about re-establishing the place of Catholicism as part of Quebec’s heritage and culture (see Beaman, 2013; Zubrzycki, 2016; Meunier and LaFlamme, 2011).…”
