Rethinking the nineteenth‐century museum via the Ottoman imperial museum

Abstract: Most accounts of the Ottoman Imperial Museum view the museum primarily as a Westernization project for the Ottoman Empire. In such readings, the museum follows a teleological trajectory toward the European norm.
