RETRACTED ARTICLE: Dehydroevodiamine suppresses inflammatory responses in adjuvant-induced arthritis rats and human fibroblast-like synoviocytes

Abstract: Dehydroevodiamine (DHE) is an effective natural active substance extracted from Euodiae Fructus , which is a widely used herbal drug in traditional Chinese medicine. The focus of this study was to test the possibility of using DHE in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) diseases. A rat model of adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) was generated using Complete Freund’s Adjuvant (CFA). Body weight changes, arthritis scores, ankle pathology, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleuki… Show more

“…The RA rat model was effectively duplicated in this work using a variety of assessment methods after injection of Freund’s complete adjuvant in a short period. Through X-ray examination, histopathological analysis, and the detection of inflammatory factors, it was discovered that the model rats’ feet, tails, and spinal joints were gradually swollen and stiff and that there was a severe inflammatory response in the joints of the rats, so the inflammatory response evolved into bone deformation and stiffness due to unregulated, which was the same pathological phenomenon as in previous similar studies ( Pan et al, 2017 ; Dai et al, 2022 ). Although clinical features of patients with RA cannot be entirely simulated, the current results may explain why rat models of adjuvant-induced arthritis are commonly implemented in drug development.…”

“…This cell line is capable of stable propagation across 10 to 15 passages. Its use has significantly facilitated the screening of drugs for RA and the investigation into the mechanisms of action of RA treatments in recent years ( Dai et al, 2022 ). Firstly, the potential cytotoxicity of FFXHL on MH7A cells was evaluated.…”

“…The level of MMP3 usually up regulated in RA patients [ 43 , 44 ] ( Table S1 ). Dehydroevodiamine is an effective compound of Euodiae Fructus and showed obvious reduction on the MMP3 of AIA rats [ 45 ]. Emodin was isolated from Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, and was similar to purpurin in structure, which possessed 9,10-dianthrone; this study showed that emodin significantly inhibited the expression of MMP3 [ 46 ].…”
