RETRACTED: Evaluation of antioxidant activities, toxicity studies and the DNA damage protective effect of various solvent extracts of Litsea cubeba fruits

Abstract: Litsea cubeba is devoured by the ethnic individuals of Arunachal Pradesh in India as food and has been traditionally used for curing different ailments. The purpose of present study was to investigate the antioxidant activities of fruits of L. cubeba using different solvent extracts, quantification of phenolics, toxicity studies and DNA damage protective activities. The antioxidant activities of fruits using five different solvent extracts completed utilizing different in vitro examines. The quantitation of ph… Show more

“…These antioxidants act as radical scavengers and are capable of radical scavenging, recombining radicals, chelating the transition of metal ions and transferring electrons, with the formation of stable food products as the result of those activities. LC has been reported to have high antioxidant activity, similar to chemical antioxidants (Seal et al., 2020). Citral has been shown to be the major component responsible for ferric reducing antioxidant potential and important antioxidant activities (Bouzenna et al., 2017).…”

“…These compounds demonstrated significant antioxidant, radical-scavenging and protective effects in β-amyloid-induced neurotoxicity [ 40 ]. The high levels of phenolic acids and flavonoid compounds further demonstrated the antioxidant, hemolytic lethality, and cytotoxicity activities of L. cubeba fruit extracts [ 41 ]. Based on the above findings, it could be postulated that LCP was utilized in dietary applications to reduce oxidative pressure and related damage in in vivo and in vitro studies.…”

“…For fruits stored at 4 • C (Figure 3C), the accumulation of MDA was much slower, and after only 18 d of storage, its concentration reached 10.74 and 9.86 µmoL/g for CH/CS/gly film-coated fruits and LCEO/CH/CS/gly film-coated fruits, respectively. The much slower accumulation of MDA was most likely due to the incorporation of LCEO in the coating mixture, as it is well documented that LCEO, like most EOs, has strong antioxidant activities [40], which would retard the oxidation of the lipids in the cell membrane.…”
