The growing popularity of LoRa-based solutions, such as weather, environmental, and climate monitoring, has resulted in larger LoRaWAN deployments and increased network load. However, the random channel access method used in LoRaWAN leads to higher message collision probabilities and potential data loss, diminishing the network's energy efficiency. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a hardware-independent model that assesses energy consumption and efficiency in different LoRaWAN channel access approaches. Through simulation and analysis of real energy values, we provide insights and recommendations for optimizing the network performance and energy usage. This study fills a research gap and contributes to the development of more robust and energy-efficient LoRaWAN systems for various application areas.

This work investigates a two-way communication retrial queue with synchronous working vacation and a constant retrial policy. During the idle time, a server makes an outgoing call after a random length. The service time of the incoming call and outgoing call obeys exponential distribution with different rates. If the incoming call finds all servers to be unavailable, it may or may not enter orbit. All servers immediately go on vacation simultaneously as soon as they find an empty system after the service finishes. During vacation, the servers can provide a service to those incoming calls, but this is at a lower-speed rate. The stationary probability distribution and the ergodic condition are obtained utilizing the matrix geometric technique. Some system characteristics are developed. Using MATLAB software, the variation in average orbit length, idle ratio, and the average number of servers in different server states is plotted for different values of the incoming/outgoing call rate and retrial rate. We further propose a multi-objective optimization model from which the optimal rate of outgoing calls and optimal vacation rate are explicitly obtained.

This paper considers a retrial G-queue with collisions, transmission errors, and a finite number of sources, where service and repair time are both general distributions. The number of sources (terminals) is finite and a source cannot generate new requests until the channel (server) finishes its work, i.e., the rate at which new primary requests are generated varies inversely with the number of data frame (customer) in the system. A collision occurs when service requests arrive at a busy channel, and transmission errors prevent data frames from leaving the system after completing service. Two types of arrivals are considered. Negative customers will break down the system in the busy state and remove the customer under service. The application of our model is indicated, with a particular emphasis on communication networks such as the local-area networks (LAN) with CSMA/CD protocol. Recursive formulas have been derived to calculate the stationary joint distributions and the Laplace transform of reliability function by applying the discrete transformations method along with the supplementary variables technique (SVT). Furthermore, the comparative performance and reliability analysis have been conducted numerically. Numerical examples are provided to investigate the sensitivity of different parameters on performance measures and reliability indicators.
