Retrieval of vertical profiles and tropospheric CO2 columns based on high-resolution FTIR over Hefei, China

Abstract: High-resolution solar absorption spectra, observed by ground-based Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), are used to retrieve vertical profiles and partial or total column concentrations of many trace gases. In this study, we present the tropospheric CO2 columns retrieved by mid-infrared solar spectra over Hefei, China. To reduce the influence of stratospheric CO2 cross-dependencies on tropospheric CO2, an a posteriori optimization method based on a simple matrix multiplication is used to correct the… Show more

“…According to the HITRAN2020 database, as well as previous studies, micro-windows near 2600 cm −1 and 4800 cm −1 are selected separately. The interfering gases simultaneously retrieved in each band are given in Table 1 [10,12,24]. Figure 3 shows two typical spectra near 2600 cm −1 collected at 01:57 UTC on 16 April 2019 with a solar zenith angle (SZA) of 48.67 • and near 4800 cm −1 collected at 01:26 UTC on 16 April 2019 with a SZA of 43.35 • , respectively.…”

“…The instruments include a high-resolution Fourier transform infrared Bruker IFS 125HR spectrometer and a solar tracker (A547N) installed on the roof. A meteorological station (Zeno, coastal environmental systems, USA) on the roof records surface pressure, temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and other meteorological information since September 2015 (Yin et al, 2020;Zhang et al, 2020;Shan et al, 2021b;Shan et al, 2021a;Wang et al, 2017;Yin et al, 2019). The spectrometer uses a liquid-nitrogen-cooled MCT detector combined with a KBr beamsplitter to record the mid-infrared spectra.…”

“…Figure6. Ground-based FTIR CO 2 measurements at the Hefei observatory(Shan et al, 2021). The seasonality and interannual variability are represented by the black dashed curve and black dashed line, respectively, which are fitted by using a bootstrap resampling model with a third Fourier series plus a linear function.…”
