“…Second, compared with transperitoneal approach, the retroperitoneal approach provided rapid and direct access to the urinary tract and avoided mobilization of intraperitoneal organs or retraction of organs, such as the liver. Our opinions were similar to those of Gupta et al, 18 who believed that the retroperitoneoscopic approach was safer, easier, and less time consuming, and it provided direct access to the ureter and IVC.…”

“…However, the mean operative time in their study was 3 hours. 1 Although laparoscopic dismembered pyelopyelostomy, 1,7,10,15,16 LUUS 2,7,8,[12][13][14][17][18][19][20][21][22] and pyeloureterostomy 11 were successfully performed in treatment of RCU, the very limited number of cases reported worldwide did not provide sufficient knowledge about the preferable surgical technique to correct this rare disease. Most case reports describe prolonged operative times, largely because of the initial difficulties with intracorporeal suture techniques.…”

“…They express their preference for the retroperitoneal method, and they choose the laparoscopic technique. The time it takes to carry out the operation is an important limiting factor; most reported cases describe a prolonged operation of between 2.5 and 7.5 hours in grand part because of the intracorporeal suture [2,5,6]. Laparoscopic-assisted procedures such as the one we present here would be limited by body habitus, ureteric length, location of the obstruction, and risk for devascularization.…”
