Retrospective analysis of 449 intracranial meningioma patients operated between years 2007 – 2013 in a single institute

Abstract: AIm: Meningioma literature has many large surgical case series, which have been references of text books and neurosurgical practice. Many of those series were published when stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) was not so common or these series were in terms of World Health Organization (WHO) 2000 classification. In this study, we aimed to make an update to the current literature using WHO 2007 classification system. mATERIAl and mEThODS: Four hundred eighty-eight intracranial meningioma patients underwent open sur… Show more

“…Although more aggressive when compared with adult forms, survival with these tumors are long with radical surgery; radiotherapy is usually delayed until repeated surgeries fail to be beneficial in order to avoid longterm consequences since these patients are in childhood age. In our experience, only five patients with subtotally removed, and worse prognosis in adults (5). On the other hand, skull base or deep meningiomas are associated with higher surgical morbidity and lower complete excision rates even though they may have less aggressive behavior, thus yielding similar recurrence and long-term outcomes (21).…”

“…Brain AVM (bAVM) commonly presents with intracranial hemorrhage, although it may be discovered following a seizure or as an incidental finding in patients undergoing brain imaging for headache. Rarely do they cause hydrocephalus, and when they do, it is often due to obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways by a dilated venous varix [1-3].…”
