Review Article: Mapping of children’s health and development data on population level using the classification system ICF-CY

Abstract: ICF-CY can be useful as a tool for documenting child health. It provides not only a code useful for statistical purposes but also a language useful for the CHS and SHS in their work on individual as well as population levels. It was noted that the health terms used by services mainly focused on health related to body function. This indicates that more focus is needed on health data related to child's functioning in everyday life situations.

“…In the second step, ten percent of the coded items from each instrument were randomly sampled and coded separately by a third researcher to obtain inter-rater reliability. Reliability was deemed acceptable with 74 % agreement [32,35,36]. Differences in coding between raters did not involve linking items to ICF-CY categories, but rather if items were definable and could or could not be covered.…”

“…When results from screening or other visits show that the child’s health and development are deviating from typical development, the instruction is to mark the box with a cross and use free text notes to describe the deviation. The health information requested in the national standardized HR is mainly based on the physical perspective of health (18). According to nurses and physicians within the CHS and SHS, some information concerning children’s psychosocial health was consciously omitted in the HRs and transmitted as peer‐to‐peer verbal communication within and between the services (19).…”

“…This percentage shows how many studies from the database address each of the relevant ICF-CY domains of functioning. Similar approaches have been adopted in public health research [40]. (2) with the most frequent code, d710 Basic Interpersonal Interactions, reported in only 7 out of 83 studies.…”
