Review of Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance 2012

Abstract: There were 90 articles published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR) in 2012, which is an 8% increase in the number of articles since 2011. The quality of the submissions continues to increase. The editors are delighted to report that the 2011 JCMR Impact Factor (which is published in June 2012) has risen to 4.44, up from 3.72 for 2010 (as published in June 2011), a 20% increase. The 2011 impact factor means that the JCMR papers that were published in 2009 and 2010 were cited on average … Show more

“…Heart volume without cardiac adipose tissue was quantified by manually tracing the area in-between the visceral layer of the pericardium. MI was assumed, if the signal intensity of hyperenhanced myocardium on delayed enhancement imaging was > 5 standard deviations above the mean signal intensity of the remote region and MVO was defined as a hypoenhanced region within the infarcted myocardium [ 24 , 25 ]. Infarct size and MVO were expressed as a percentage of the total left ventricular myocardial volume [ 20 ], when not stated otherwise.…”

“…Journals may include acceptance rate in their web site (e.g. http://veterinaryrecord.bmj.com/site/about/) or publish this information as part of an annual review , but most do not publish acceptance rates, possibly because prospective authors could be discouraged by a low acceptance rate. In contrast, it seems clear that many prospective authors need more guidance about manuscript submission , and knowing how many manuscripts are rejected might help stimulate efforts to submit better quality manuscripts.…”

“…Cardiac MRI provides a large field of view, unlimited scanning planes, high tissue contrast, and three-dimensional (3D) images. These characteristics make this technique useful for the diagnosis and staging of the severity of cardiac diseases, including cardiomyopathy, congenital heart diseases, valvular diseases, and pulmonary hypertension [ 9 ]. The established clinical role of cardiac MRI in human medicine is to perform morphological and functional assessment of complex diseases of the heart and great vessels; cardiac MRI is considered the gold standard in human medicine for measuring left ventricular (LV) volume and function [ 2 ].…”
