Review of microbial corrosion prevention and control technology in the petroleum industry

Abstract

Microbial corrosion (MIC) is widely present in the petroleum industry, including oil extraction, transportation, and processing. This type of corrosion not only causes structural damage to metal materials, but also leads to corrosion and damage to equipment such as oil and gas pipelines, storage tanks, and drill rods, shortening the service life of equipment. It may also trigger safety accidents such as fires and explosions, bringing great economic losses and safety hazards to the petroleum industry. This article provides an overview of the methods for determining, detecting, and monitoring microbial corrosion, as well as the current research status of different corrosion prevention and control methods. It emphasizes the advantages and disadvantages of different prevention and control methods and their specific prevention and control effects, and summarizes and looks forward to their future development trends and challenges. The aim is to provide some reference and guidance for the research on microbial corrosion prevention and control.
