Review of More Electric Engines for Civil Aircraft

Abstract: More electric engines (MEEs) and more electric aircraft (MEA) are mainly implemented to address the global warming issue and make engines more fuel efficient. Developing technology has made them applicable. This paper presents a detailed introduction to the MEE for civil aircraft, including its architecture, characteristics and performance, as well as the potential benefits of fuel consumption and emissions reduction. It is obvious that the adoption of electric components, such as active magnet bearings, elect… Show more

“…Based on the literature research, there are hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical power structures as secondary power usage, especially in civil aircraft. However, current studies and market trends show that efforts to replace hydraulic and pneumatic systems with electrical power systems are gaining momentum [11]. The main reasons for this are the low efficiency of hydraulic systems, their long production and design processes, and the fact that they are more difficult to control than electrical systems.…”

“…The oil-immersed motor pump is a novel electro-hydraulic integrated power unit comprising an axial piston pump and a motor, exhibiting remarkable advantages of high efficiency, compact size, high energy utilization rate, high power density, and extended lifespan. It constitutes the essential component of the rudder control system for future large airliners and advanced warplanes, and represents a critical technology for the realization of intelligent actuation of high-end equipment [1][2][3]. However, due to its high-speed operation, it generates considerable heat within a limited time [3].…”
